Need To know
Students are expected to log their reading each day. They will do this by using the site: www.biblionasium.com. For every 300 minutes that are logged (approx. 10 days), students will earn Class Tickets.
Students are expected to complete quizzes after each completed book that they read on their own. Quizzes are to be taken on www.whooosreading.org.
Students are expected to come to class prepared and ready to have fun reading! A lot of the days will be focused on building their reading stamina - each day adding more and more time. They will be held accountable for their own Daily 5 schedule. No two schedules will look the same. Each student should be working in an area where growth is needed. They will know what goal they should be working on by scheduling time to meet with me each week.
Students are asked to have a variety of good fit books with them at all times. This can be from our school library, my classroom library, home, or even the public library. Each student will be given a “book baggie” to keep books they are borrowing from my classroom library. They may take classroom library books home, but are asked to bring back each day.
Students will periodically be working on class read alouds. These are novels that we are reading and working through, as a class. When working on a class novel, I ask that students do not read ahead (as hard as that may be!!). This will allow for more meaningful, directed discussion and participation. However, if a student needs extra time to catch up, please have your child meet with me to arrange book check-out to read at home.
